In the venture capital world (raising money for a
company), the head of the investor firm receives on an
average, 12-30 business plans / models, proposals, &
prospectus every Monday - Friday from individuals and
companies from around the world. That's over 60-150 each
week (240 600 per month). How can the venture capitalist
know what venture to invest his money in that is going to
bring forth a greater return in the future?

The investor spends on average 2 minutes looking at each
proposal. If the proposal doesn't explain your markets
competition, market share that your competitors hold, the
annual net worth of that industry, new developments and
advancements in that industry just to name a few, it will
be tossed in the trash or just filed away. The same thing
applies to the music industry.

So in presenting your music to other companies, you have
to have a understanding of the companies vision and submit
bullet-point information that will give you an edge, and
move you closer to your desired goal. If not, you will be
wasting time and money.

When you send your resume, don't fold it. Also, include
the address of the clubs that you performed at with a
reference name and number. Many club promoters will do a
background check at the venues that you performed at. If
you are seeking music production work, include what type
of music equipment you work with (I.e. Pro Tools, Reason's
2.5, MPC 2000) including and musical instrument training
(I.e. Keyboard, Bass, Trumpet, Violins etc). Make updates
to your resume every 6 months so you can see the
accomplishments and what goals achieved.

In 2010, The HMC DJ University is scheduled to launch in June, this will include many of the dance music, technology and marketing industry leaders that will teach young producers, dj’s and recording artist how to succeed.
